Thank you for your interest in participating in our first Jazz Festival held on the campus of Warren High School. Here at Warren High School my students and I have fallen in love with Jazz and what it provides to us as performers, listeners and citizens. Jazz is part of our regular school day here at Warren and at least 1/3 of our students are involved with the jazz program. Because of our love and dedication to Jazz, we have decided to start hosting a festival. We wanted this festival to take on certain things you do and do not experience at other festivals. Such as...
1. Jam Session Room
2. Non adjudicated outdoor stage (just a chance to play! No cost to come play!)
3. Adjudication Room (get your competitive juices going)
4. Food and social gathering
5. All equipment provided at every location - including the warm up room! (don't you hate dragging your stuff everywhere?)
6. Professional Sound engineer that will provide you a copy of your performance so you can "adjudicate yourself". (only provided in the adjudicated room)
With this in mind - we want everyone to come and stay for the day and enjoy sharing, supporting and learning from one another. We hope that bands and patrons don't just come for their portion and leave - although I understand why that happens because I do it as well.
Please keep in mind that the adjudicated room is our Library. Our library is a brand new building with a SUPER high ceiling and all kinds of great multi media. Bands will be on a stage in the library and there will be a full compliment of sound reinforcement set up for every band. The outdoor stage is for anyone that wants to perform including bands that also perform in the adjudication room. SO yes, you can perform TWICE at this festival or open up and play the other songs in your folder that you didn't do inside! The outdoor stage will be also have sound reinforcement and a schedule - but there will be no adjudication or "recording" provided to you. The jam session room will be open for anyone that wants to go in and play around making music together. Different students from various schools interacting the best way we know how - musically!
We truley want this day to become a celebration of jazz. The cost to particpate is $175 only for bands that would like to enter the "competition" end of things. This fee simply pays for the judges, the sound engineer, the certificates and awards.
Please download the following information and come back and visit this web site in the future for performance times, maps and eventually scores and high lights!
We hope that you decide to share your music with us!
Sincerley,
David M. Niemeyer
